I will be arguing the side of the harmonization of our environmental standards against the use and consumption of resources(money).
Oil companies use large amounts of natural gas to make steam to liquefy heavy oil reserves, creating more carbon dioxide than conventional production.
which will end up harming our society severely if we don't put a stop to it fast.
WHAT IS THE KEYSTONE PIPELINE?
THE KEYSTONE XL PIPELINE IS A PROPOSED 1,179-MILE (1,897 KM), 36-INCH-DIAMETER CRUDE OIL PIPELINE BEGINNING IN HARDISTY, ALBERTA, AND EXTENDING SOUTH TO STEELE CITY, NEB. THIS PIPELINE IS A CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT FOR THE ENERGY SECURITY OF THE UNITED STATES AND FOR STRENGTHENING THE AMERICAN ECONOMY.
THE GOVERNMENT ONLY SEES MONEY BENEFITS COMING OUT OF THE OIL PROJECTS AS SHOWED IN THe ARTICLE below --> "Approval of the keystone"
The nrdc states--> "If approved, the Keystone pipeline would drive major increases in tar sands extraction and carbon pollution associated with it. Approval of the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline would increase carbon emissions by up to 1.2 billion metric tons over the projects lifespan, significantly exacerbating the problem of climate pollution."
Building the sustainable economy, not the Keystone pipeline, will create far more jobs since it has been said that the keystone will reduce more jobs than it creates which i will explain more further down.
FACT:
the Keystone XL Pipeline will also support the significant growth of crude oil production in the United States by allowing American oil producers more access to the large refining markets found in the American Midwest and along the U.S. Gulf Coast.

Oct 15,2014 | | The article shows that the Government does not pay any mind to the environmental issue at hand. The keystone Pipeline can be very dangerous. The pipeline will transport the dirtiest tar sands and add more carbon to our atmosphere over its 50-year project timeline than the combined tailpipe emissions of every single car in America over an entire year. Not only can it cause a lot of waste water, pollution and oil spills, but it cans also reduce more jobs than it creates. A Cornell University study concludes the pipeline would kill more jobs than it would create, by reducing investment in the clean energy economy. Cons - THE PIPELINE WON'T BRING MANY GOOD PERMANENT FULL TIME JOBS - THE OIL IS DESTINED TO BE SOLD OVERSEAS, IT WON'T REDUCE OUR DEPENDENCE ON FOREIGN OIL - IT WON'T LOWER DOMESTIC OIL PRICES - IT WILL LEAK. THE EXISTING SECTIONS OF XL HAVE ALREADY LEAKED DOZENS OF TIMES. AND TAR SANDS IS NOT LIKE OIL, IT IS MUCH HARDER TO CLEAN UP, AND IS NOT COVERED BY THE FUND SET UP TO CLEAN UP OIL LEAKS. -WASTE WATER & POLLUTION CRITICS SAY THE PIPELINE WOULD ONLY ENCOURAGE THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE OIL SANDS, AND THEREBY WORSEN GLOBAL WARMING. OIL COMPANIES USE LARGE AMOUNTS OF NATURAL GAS TO MAKE STEAM TO LIQUEFY HEAVY OIL RESERVES, CREATING MORE CARBON DIOXIDE THAN CONVENTIONAL PRODUCTION. Waste water and pollution The water used in the process of the pipelines come from rivers and underground aquifers, the water from the rivers and aquifers is very dirty, this is waste water. Waste water contains feces, urine and septic tank discharge. Foe.com states that “It takes three barrels of water to extract each single barrel of oil. Ninety-five percent of the water used to extract the oil, which is about 2.4 million barrels per day, is so polluted that the water must be stored in large human-made pools, known as tailing ponds.” The effects of untreated waste water as well as pollution can be very devastating. The pollution which comes from these pipelines can also harm our natural resources if it gets into our clean water system by the toxic sludge which is full of harmful substances like cyanide and ammonia. Forest Destruction The extraction of oil can cause the deforestation, degradation, and environmental devastation not only North America but across the globe. The oil extraction can be very messy and destructive. For example, spills and toxic drilling products are dumped directly into local creeks and rivers. The destruction of our forests will turn out to be very harmful to our wildlife and to our own living habitat if we don`t do something about it. Oil spills can be harmful to our forests as well, especially to our rivers and aquatic ecosystems, which may include floating meadows, swamp forest, oxbow lakes, flooded forest, and sand bars. We should start taking a stand and put a stop to these pipelines https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMqbvEc13eA This video shows a Republican by the name of Huffman speaks against the Keystone Pipeline. Cowboys and Indians unite Together, the Native American tribes, ranchers, farmers, cowboys, and environmentalists came along to rally and protest for 6 days in Washington, D.C, to protest against the Keystone XL Pipeline project. The natives and cowboys protested against the Keystone project for mostly environmental issues. The protesters say they are worried about the project's effect on climate change, their traditional way of life, health and safety of their aboriginal and farming communities along the route. The natives have always lived by this saying,"Whatever we do to the Earth, we do to ourselves. It's not because we are closer to nature than others, have spirit animals or look really attractive on horseback that we know this basic fact. Everyone on Earth knows it, too, but they get pressured to ignore it." A very simple message that the natives have been following for centuries. STOPPING THE KEYSTONE Tar sands oil is one of the dirtiest fuels on the Earth. Facilitating the exploitation of the tar sands will delay investments in clean and safe alternatives to oil, such as better fuel economy requirements, plug-in electric cars fueled by solar power, and smart growth and public transportation infrastructure that give Americans choices other than cars. In order to avoid devastating effects on the climate from a global rise of 2 degrees Celsius, such as the melting of the Arctic ice, sea level rise, and more extreme tornados and hurricanes and more floods and heat waves, the International Energy Association says that up to two-thirds of known fossil reserves must remain untouched.
